Chapter 5 of 9

Mai Suya locations

Your stall can stand in five places, from Agege to Victoria Island. Each opens as your takings grow; the further you go, the more suya sells for and the more customers expect. The places are named after Lagos areas; their crowds and rules are game design, not a picture of the real neighbourhoods.

How do I open each place?

A place opens when the stall’s total takings (sales and tips, every night added up) reach its mark. Surulere also opens on day 3. Pick tonight’s place on the morning screen’s “Place” tab.

Agege

Agege, on the Lagos mainland, gives its name to Agege bread. Every stall starts here.

Who comes: night-shift danfo drivers 30%, danfo conductors 15%, okada riders 10%, people just out of the bar 20% and students 25%.

  • Suya sells for its menu price (beef ₦300 a skewer); stock costs the same everywhere.
  • Stall fee ₦800 a night, paid when the stall closes.
  • The only place where customers order suya with Agege bread (25% of orders once you stock it).

Surulere

Surulere, on the mainland, is home to the National Stadium; on a football night the fans come out after the final whistle.

Who comes: people just out of the bar 44%, students 38%, danfo conductors 13% and okada riders 6%; football fans on football nights.

  • Suya sells for +5% over the menu price (beef ₦320 a skewer); stock costs the same everywhere.
  • Stall fee ₦1,300 a night, paid when the stall closes.
  • Football nights happen only here.

Ikeja

Ikeja is the capital of Lagos State, with the airport close by.

Who comes: night-shift security guards 30%, night-shift danfo drivers 25%, aunties with the kids 35% and okada riders 10%; people just out of the bar on NEPA power cut nights.

  • Suya sells for +8% over the menu price (beef ₦320 a skewer); stock costs the same everywhere.
  • Stall fee ₦2,000 a night, paid when the stall closes.
  • Customers want it clean: a burnt skewer upsets everyone waiting.

Lekki

Lekki lies on the peninsula east of Victoria Island.

Who comes: people just out of the bar 40%, visitors 30%, aunties with the kids 25% and okada riders 5%.

  • Suya sells for +12% over the menu price (beef ₦340 a skewer); stock costs the same everywhere.
  • Stall fee ₦3,800 a night, paid when the stall closes.
  • Every order goes in a box: newspaper costs 2 stars here instead of 1 star.
  • Customers are 20% less patient.
  • Customers want cold drinks: they ask for them more, and with none in the cooler each one starts less happy.

Victoria Island

Victoria Island lies on the Atlantic shore of Lagos.

Who comes: visitors 50%, aunties with the kids 30% and people just out of the bar 20%.

  • Suya sells for +18% over the menu price (beef ₦350 a skewer); stock costs the same everywhere.
  • Stall fee ₦6,300 a night, paid when the stall closes.
  • Every order goes in a box: newspaper costs 2 stars here instead of 1 star.
  • Customers are 30% less patient.
  • Customers want cold drinks: they ask for them more, and with none in the cooler each one starts less happy.

Is a Lekki suya game night like a Victoria Island suya game night?

Close, with Victoria Island the harder of the two. Both want suya in a box and a cold drink with it. Victoria Island pays 1.18× the menu price against 1.12× in Lekki, its stall fee is ₦6,300 a night against ₦3,800, and its customers wait 70% as long as in Agege, against 80% in Lekki. It opens at ₦500,000 of total takings, Lekki at ₦200,000.

Which place should I pick tonight?

The newest place you have opened usually earns the most: suya sells for more there, and the stall fee is small next to it. Move up once you can serve its customers well: Lekki and Victoria Island want boxes and cold drinks.
